I like to work fast, go hard, and jam to music while doing so. Here are 5 of my favorite workday jams that may help you get going too:
1. K’s Choice – Not an Addict
I think I first heard this song when I was visiting my brother at UMass Amherst in 2002. I was way too young to be there or relate to the song, but it has always been a jam I go back to. This particular live version is my favorite. The subject matter is a bit sad/dark, yet I dare you to put it on and not get drawn in by the opening moans of “ooh ooooh ooooh.”
2. Rise Against – Savior
If you have to work with a sense of urgency, this is your jam. Having this blasting in the background can turn organizing files into feeling like you’re ripping down a black diamond on skis.
3. 42 Dugg, Roddy Rich – 4 Da Gang
I don’t mess with most new rappers. I have aged out, and mumble rat does not appeal to me. However, these two and this song are just straight fire. It makes you want to hit the gas pedal to the floor and roll. Also, it’s just too fun to say “444444 daa ganng.”
4. Dr. Dre & Snoog Dogg – 187 (Deep Cover Remix)
Sometimes you just gotta keep it gangster. And it doesn’t get much gangster than Snoop’s first appearance on a track (well, this is technically the remix to that). You can’t get this song on Spotify either (it might be a sampling issue); so I have this in rotation on YouTube. Another track that can make an office worker feel like they’re rolling down Crenshaw in 4-0 bouncing.
5. Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World
Need to put together your company’s newsletter and want to get into a groove? Look no further than this classic ’80s jam.
While it’s true that sometimes you need to keep it gangster, the opposite is also true—sometimes, you just need a feel-good song to jam out to during the workday.
Well, here are five tracks to get you in the zone. Maybe this will turn into a weekly blog! What are five songs that get you pumped for work?
