Tribute to Johnny Allen

On July 4th Braintree lost one of its best. John “Johnny” Allen passed and it hit everyone right in their heart. There are very few people in the world that everyone genuinely likes and Johnny was one of them. He was tough, loyal, funny, real, girls loved him and he was nice to everyone.

I probably know 50 people from Braintree that brag about being from Southie or Dorchester because they lived there until they were 5 or had a parent from there. Johnny grew up in Southie until late middle school, actually lived the life, but always said “I’m from Braintree” and laughed at the people who thought it was tougher to say they were from somewhere else.

I was not one of his best friends (that’s reserved for people like Jay & Roche and I can’t even fathom what they’re going through), but I spent a lot of time with him this summer and I’ll truly miss him. Whether it was him perfectly ripping on Murph or telling me “you’re a weirdo, but I love you” he always knew what to say to make everyone laugh. The last time I saw him he bought me a Diet Mountain Dew and said “hit me back the next time”, I wish I could. Rest in Peace Brotha.
